Sony’s Exmor RS camera sensors may soon find its place in other smartphones, including those made by rival handset makers.
The Japanese company has apparently completed work on the new CMOS image sensor series which will be available in three different variants: an 8-megapixel camera sensor, 8-megapixel module with camera signal processing tech, and a more advanced 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera module. It is said that all three versions will be capable of recording High Dynamic Range (HDR) video.
Unfortunately the new camera modules won’t be available before October and in that sense we shouldn’t see first phones with these sensors unveiled until early next year. Something tells me that handset makers adopting Sony’s technology will use the upcoming Mobile World Congress to announce new products. We’ll see…
