Not content with the likes of Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Instant Video? Barnes and Noble may soon have you covered. The company announced this morning that they will soon launch Nook Video, a video service that will likely launch alongside the company’s updated Nook Tablets, which are also set to launch ahead of the holiday season.
Barnes and Noble have built an impressive video library ahead of launch, partnering with HBO, Disney, Sony, Viacom, and Warner Bros to bring the likes of The Avengers, Brave and Game of Thrones to supported devices. Nook Video will launch on current and upcoming Nook Tablets, as well as non-B&N smartphones and tablets thanks to a smartphone application for mobile devices. Supported devices have yet to be announced, though we expect both an Android and iOS offering as the company looks to bring more video subscribers into the fold.
Nook Video will initially be US-only in the fall, followed by a UK launch in time for the holidays. Pricing has yet to be announced, though we assume it’ll be on par with other offerings.
