HP is joining the Windows 8 tablet craze with a product of its own. Called HP ElitePad 900, it has a 10.1-inch screen with 1280×800 pixels resolution. In addition, there’s 2GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in SSD storage, NFC, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, microSD card slot, while Intel’s Atom Z2760 CPU provides all the processing power needed to make things run smoothly.
So far, it’s nothing special. However, thanks to the so called “Smart Jacket” system of add-on accessories, future ElitePad 900 owners will be able to add extra capabilities to the device. For instance, one Smart Jacket adds keyboard, effectively turning it into a netbook (a la Asus Transformer Pad series); while other one is designed as a special case with extended battery and a USB port. And that’s just a start with more Smart Jackets coming later next year.
The tablet alone will be released in early 2013, most likely after we get to play with it at CES. Stay tuned as we bring you more…
