Believe it or not, the BlackBerry PlayBook is still alive and kicking. Research In Motion hasn’t forgotten about its tablet users, as the company rolled out an update. In version 2.1, users gain the support of some much-needed features, including SMS text messages, portrait view in email, calendars and contacts. The upgrade also brings Android App Player support for the camera and in-app purchases, device encryption that extends to personal data and wireless printing beyond the local network.
Unfortunately, this update is hitting WiFi only models now. Those who own a carrier operated PlayBook will have to wait a month or so, depending on when the carrier feels like pushing the OTA.
