With more and more people getting smartphones and tablets, networks are facing problem how to handle all that traffic. At the moment, smartphones represent 12% of total global handsets in use, while making for over 82% of total global handset traffic. And it’s just going to be worse:

  • Aggregate smartphone traffic in 2016 will be 50 times greater than it was in 2011.
  • Tablets generate 3.4x more mobile traffic than smartphones.
  • Mobile connected tablets will generate almost as much traffic in 2016 as the entire global mobile network in 2012.
  • There will be 8.6x more mobile data traffic in 2016 compared to 2012 – an astounding 71% CAGR.
