While we’re still fawning over the LG Optimus G and Nexus 4, it looks like the next flagship device from the Korean company may not be too far away. According to MK.co.kr, the LG Optimus G 2 may see a release in the first half of 2013 and rock some very impressive specifications.
The Optimus G 2 is rumored to have a 5 inch 1080p Full HD display with a PPI count of 440. The size isn’t much of a surprise, especially given that the existing Optimus G model’s display is already 4.7 inches. While 5 inches is a little big for our tastes, we certainly won’t be complaining about a full 1080p True HD IPS+ display.
To no one’s surprise, we can also expect the next Optimus G handset to have a faster processor. The rumor states that the Optimus G 2’s CPU will be a 2GHz quad-core beast by Qualcomm. All signs would point to the S4 Pro/Prime, but according to Qualcomm’s website, the processors can be only be clocked up to 1.7 GHz, so we may have another surprise for us on the CPU front in the coming months.
LG Innotek will be taking the lead on the device’s camera sensor, making us wonder if it will best the existing 13 megapixel shooter on the existing G.
Last but not least, the LG Optimus G 2 will ship with Android Key Lime Pie. There is little known about this release, but given that we’re just starting to see Android 4.2, there’s a lot to speculate on.
The impressive specifications aren’t all that surprising when you think about what a 2013 flagship handset might have inside, but the rumored release date for the Optimus G 2 is. The source is pegging the device to release sometime in May 2013 to do battle with the upcoming Galaxy S IV. We’ve got to applaud LG for its tenacity, especially if all of these rumors fall into place.
