Thanks to a new partnership between LG and MediaTek, triple-SIM Android handsets will soon become a reality. The development of triple-SIM technology is due to the popularity of dual-SIM Android devices in emerging markets, such as the Optimus L4II which was released in Brazil. The triple-SIM technology will allow for three SIM cards to be used at once, allowing users to make calls, send and receive texts and transmit data with three different phone numbers.
“MediaTek has long provided state-of-art solutions for multi-SIM mobile devices. 3G triple-SIM is yet another example of that. Thanks to its groundbreaking technology, our new smartphones will significantly expand the connectivity options of our customers, and in so doing allow them to take advantage of multiple tariff plans.” – Brian Kwon, Head of Product Planning Group at LG Electronics
LG’s triple-SIM devices will be based on the Android operating system, and will enable users to turn on and off the multi-SIM function when they desire.
