Microsoft Confirms Event at Gamescom, Delays Kinect Sports: Rivals

Microsoft has locked down more details for its event at the upcoming Gamescom 2013 conference in Germany. Microsoft will host a Showcase Event on Aug. 20, featuring the Xbox One. The recently announced self publishing policies on the Xbox One will be outlined as well.

Microsoft corporate vice presidents Phil Spencer and Phil Harrison will co host the event, happening in Cologne, Germany. Marc Whitten, corporate vice president of Xbox, said earlier this week that the company would have “more details” about self publishing on the Xbox One, something the Indie development community is eager to hear.

Microsoft will have playable Xbox One games on the floor at Gamescom too. Kinect Sports Rivals will have a playable build at the event but the next-gen game’s release has unfortunately been delayed.

Kinect Sports Rivals was meant to be a launch title for Microsoft’s new console, dropping this holiday season. But Microsoft confirmed yesterday that the game will be delayed, now slated for a release in spring 2014. Developer Rare has pushed back the game, its first Xbox One title, to add polish and release a game that doesn’t sacrifice quality.

When it releases, Microsoft Studios and Rare’s Kinect Sports Rivals at E3 2013 will show off the power of the Xbox One’s next-gen Kinect and feature six sporty activities: climbing, wake racing, soccer, target shooting, bowling and tennis.
