Verizon announced its Moto X availability with a tweet today. The carrier will have black and white Moto X models available “soon”. More interesting is the announcement of “Moto Maker later this year.” This is great news for Verizon customers interested in the Moto X, as the customization is one of the key features of Motorola’s new flagship.
A launch exclusive for AT&T, the Moto Maker site is essentially a wizard that allows Moto X customers to customize every detail of their new phone. You can choose from 18 back colors, custom boot messages, 16 or 32GB of storage, 7 accent colors, 16 unique wallpapers, engraving for the back cover, and 2 front colors. You can even choose unique Sol Republic headphones in a matching color, and a matching colored charger to boot. There are 504 possible configurations of the Moto X, each one unique. It’s up to you to choose.
While no date was announced for the Verizon Moto Maker, it’s good news for both the carrier and the Moto X. The AT&T exclusivity of what many view as a key selling point of the Moto X, the ability to create a unique device, is a disappointment. So it’s great to see that the Moto Maker features will become more widely available. Eventually.
So, what do you think? Any Verizon users willing to wait for customization?
