Remember the Rumored 12.9″ Apple iPad Maxi? Apparently It’s Real

Back at the end of May, we heard rumors of a huge 12.9″ iPad, dubbed the (yes, I’m serious..) iPad Maxi. We don’t know much about the iPad Maxi, with specs and components unknown. A new report today claims that the big ol’ iPads are being tested by Quanta Computer, a Chinese company with close ties to Apple.

Apple is supposedly developing the 12.9″ iPad to compete against the growing popularity for Ultrabooks and convertible PCs. The device could also be aimed at the education market, becoming a replacement for traditional textbooks. Apparently, Apple has been in talks with component manufacturers regarding the production of the mammoth tablet, which could be announced in early 2014.

Before we see any sign of the iPad Maxi in the real world, Apple has to unveil the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2, which should both be announced next month.
