Aside from unveiling new tablets and Fire OS 3.0, Amazon also announced a new ability that will let Kindle Fire HDX users download Prime Instant Videos for free offline viewing. Yup this is something no other streaming service if offering, helping the retail giant differentiate from the rest of the pack.
Among the participating studios are NBC, Viacom, Sony, CBS and Warner Bros, with named titles including Under the Dome, Downtown Abbey, Justified, Dora the Explorer and Goodfellas.
Once Prime users download TV or movie content, they’ll have up to 30 days to start watching, and another 48 hours to finish.
There’s one caveat though – not all of the content from the Prime Instant database will be available for download. Due to some rights-owner-holdouts, users will be able to get only a selection of titles for offline viewing. Before you go nuts, let me add that this subset of titles includes “tens of thousands” of TV shows and movies, making sure you have enough entertainment to fill-up your Kindle Fire for that trip around the world…
