China will soon be flooded with 4G LTE phones and MediaTek wants to see its chips being used in many of them. Right now, MediaTek processors don’t come with integrated LTE connectivity support with handset makers turning to the likes of Qualcomm for their 4G devices. That’s about to change with the upcoming MTK6290 SoC which will not only be a low-cost solution, but also support TD-LTE, FDD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, GSM and EDGE networks.

It is said that this processor will be made on the 28nm architecture, and yes – we expect to see it being adopted by a number of local vendors, as well as other handset makers looking for an affordable solution for their mid-end products.

Among MediaTek’s better known clients are Xiaomi and Sony, with Samsung apparently also showing interest in the Taiwanese company’s chips.
