Facebook is testing some new features and a new look with their Android Messenger app with a new update today that is rolling out to select users.
The update brings a new look to the popular messaging app, which resembles the aesthetics of some newly redesigned iOS 7 apps. Gone is the blue bar at the top of the messages screen, replaced with a white color along with the contact’s name. Underneath the contact’s name is a new blue icon, which denotes if said contact is currently signed in to Messenger. Users can now swipe left or right from a message window to view recent conversations, settings and a list of contacts.
Users can now message contacts who are not Facebook friends through the app, provided that you have confirmed your mobile number through the app.
Facebook has added some pretty sweet features with this update, which could give Google’s recently updated Hangouts app a run for their money. Hopefully we see all or some of these features pop up in the next Facebook Messenger for Android update.
