According to the Wall Street Journal, Google’s rumored smartwatch may become a reality sooner than we expected. The WSJ is reporting that the advertising giant is in talks with Asian suppliers in a bid to begin production of the device. The smartwatch will be heavy on Google Now integration, and still needs to communicate with a smartphone, even though Google is looking to make it a standalone device.
Just a few weeks ago, rumors pointed to the Google Watch releasing alongside the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat, which should happen within the next few weeks. We could also be seeing the device activate with the magic words, “Ok, Google” much in the way that the Moto X speech recognition works.
With Google in talks with suppliers, it could be next year before we actually see the Google Watch in reality. Some are saying it could arrive in time for the holidays, which could happen. We’ll just have to wait and see.
In the meantime, check out WSJ’s video report below.
