T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z Now Receiving Android 4.2.2

While it might not be the Android 4.4 KitKat update set to hit the Verizon Moto X today, T-Mobile Xperia Z owners are also set to receive an update. The handset will get the bump to Android 4.2.2, which might not be the latest and greatest version of the OS but it’s welcomed nonetheless.

The new update has begun rolling out to handsets today, but antsy owners can also head over to the T-Mobile support page to find out how to manually install the software through Sony’s PC companion tool.

Outside of the official OS version bump, the latest build for the T-Mobile Xperia Z offers the follow:

New Features

  • Update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • Adds camera access from Lock screen

Improvements

  • Software stability improvements
  • Improves handset rebooting when dialing a call.

Android 4.2.2 isn’t a bad update in the least bit, and with Sony announcing it’s plans to bring Android 4.3 and 4.4 to the Xperia Z, it’ll only be a matter of time before the handset is running on a newer version of Android. That said, the international version of the Sony Xperia Z has been rocking Android 4.2.2 for some time now, illustrating how carriers continue to get in the way of OS updates.

If you’re holding on to a T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z, what are you waiting for? Go get your update on!
