Mozilla’s mobile platform has reached users in no less than 13 countries, Mobile World Live is reporting.
The current focus for Firefox OS is Eastern European, where users are able to get Alcatel’s One Touch Fire from local subsidiaries of Telenor and Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile). Asian markets are set to follow shortly.
The HTML5-based mobile platform was announced at Mobile World Congress in February when Mozilla said it has cornered more than 20 operators and handset vendors to support it. At that time, the company claimed its OS is designed to bring a smartphone experience at a low price point, with a particular focus on emerging markets.
Aside from Deutsche Telekom and Telenor, Telefonica is also a big supporter of Firefox OS, having launched devices in some of its markets, including Spain, Colombia and Venezuela.
