Android is coming to an Audi near you. Together with Google, the premium car maker will show the first device with an Android-based in-car entertainment system at CES in Las Vegas.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Google is looking to go beyond mobile devices, targeting cars as one of the next markets it wants to tackle (alongside smart watches and glasses). The search giant already has the capability to offer touch-less user experience, allowing drivers to access navigation, music library, weather information and local search results with nothing but their voice. In that sense the partnership with Audi is likely just a first step in Google’s bigger quest to “conquer our cars.”

Meanwhile, some auto makers have started including ports for connecting to Apple’s iPhone, while Microsoft has been working with Ford on its SYNC platform. Google obviously doesn’t want to be left out of this game and we’re sure we’ll be hearing more about their “Android in the car” project in the months to come…
