The hot-off-the-presses rumor is that Canonical is about to announce partnership with Meizu to make the world’s first Ubuntu smartphone.
We don’t have all, if any, details and should apparently get them later today or perhaps – tomorrow.
What you can see above is said to be the Meizu MX3 running Ubuntu. That may not be proof, cause that sort of thing should be possible even without the official partnership. Then again, we do hope this will be the case.
We know that Canonical has scored an unnamed partner to make the Ubuntu smartphone, and as far as we (don’t) know – that could easily be Meizu. At the same time, we’ve heard that Meizu wants to enter the U.S. market. Perhaps it didn’t mean to sell Android devices there, but Ubuntu-powered ones? We like how that sounds and can only hope there’s some merit in this rumor. We may be adding more on this story in the next few hours or so. Stay tuned…
