Magellan unveiled its latest Personal Navigation Device (PND) at CES. Marked as RoadMate 5430T-LM, this model is powered by Android, featuring 5-inch EasyTouch touch screen which we’ll take for capacitive touchscreen. In comparison, most other PNDs rely on the old resistive touchscreen technology.
As part of the deal, users get “superior navigation experience” that includes many premium features like landmark guidance, PhantomALERT, junction view, and free lifetime traffic alerts and map updates. “Users know they are traveling with the information necessary to make critical on-point driving decisions.”
Availability wise, Magellan’s RoadMate 5430T-LM will start selling later this quarter at retailers throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as online at magellangps.com. Its MSRP is set at $179.99.
While we like this RoadMate unit and think it’s not too expensive, we also find these kinds of devices obsolete. You either have them integrated in your car, or you rely on your smartphone to get directions. That’s at least the way I see things, what do you think?
