4K tablets coming later this year?

This year we may see the first 4K tablets hitting the market with Japan Display (JDI) announcing the 10.1″ screen with whopping 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution. That’s 438ppi baby! In comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 has a 359ppi screen with 2560 x 1600 pixels display.

And there’s more. Thanks to the frugal LTPS technology, JDI managed to make this panel battery friendly, requiring no more power than the panel used in Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4.

In addition, the screen flaunts 1100:1 contrast ratio, a 160-degree viewing angle, and a peak brightness of 400 nits.

Unfortunately we’re still clueless which OEMs are on board but chances are all of the major vendors will want to launch a tablet with 4K screen. In fact, I would be surprised if we don’t see this sort of device launching by Christmas, making it one of the most desirable gifts for just about anyone. 😉
