Apple is apparently looking to bring split-screen multitasking to iPad, 9to5mac is reporting. According to their sources, the new capability will be available with the upcoming iOS 8 and at least initially, it will only work on the bigger 9.7-inch iPad in landscape mode.
For those who count, split-screen multitasking is something few competing tablets and even phones can do, including Microsoft Surface and several Samsung models. In fact, this feature was highlighted by Microsoft in some of its TV ads comparing Surface with the iPad.
Meanwhile, savvy users can already cram this sort of multitasking to their iPads, relying on the jailbreak tweak called OS Experience. Alas, it’s not something a majority of users will try out…
The new version of iOS is expected to be announced on June 2nd during the WWDC 2014.
