Another day, another Galaxy S5 Active rumor. This time we’re going into specifics.
First, we’ve learned that just like its predecessor, the Galaxy S5 Active will also have physical rather than capacitive buttons. Simply put – this is a must-have for a water-resistant device since capacitive keys may not work perfectly under water.
Second, the Galaxy S5 Active will have a built-in barometer. Although it used to be the feature of last year’s Galaxy S4, the current Galaxy S5 doesn’t have this sensor. Why that’s the case is beyond me.
Third, Samsung will include a customizable “Active” key pressing on which the Active Zone app will open showing barometer reading and compass direction, while also providing shortcuts for flashlight and stopwatch. Moreover, a long press on the same key will fire-up camera — press again and you’ll snap a photo.
Fourth, it is said that the Galaxy S5 Active will rock a slightly bigger 5.2-inch screen; in comparison – the regular Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch display. We’re just hoping that this won’t make the device much bigger.
Finally, we’re hearing the Galaxy S5 Active will be thinner than its “non-Active” counterpart. Nice touch, I would add.
As for few other Galaxy S5 features like heart rate monitor and fingerprint scanner, we’re not sure whether these will be included in the Active variant. We would guess “active” users would want to follow their heart beats but can’t confirm that the capability will indeed be included. More to come, obviously.
