It was during this year’s CES when AT&T and Asus announced PadFone X. As I’m writing this, that device is still not available for purchase and all we’ve got in the meantime were few demo videos showing the versatility of a smartphone that can be turned into a tablet.
The good news is that the PadFone X won’t be a U.S.-only device for long with Asus preparing to launch its international variant at Computex. The upcoming model will be known as PadFone S (rather than “X”) and as far as we’ve understood, it will boast identical hardware with specs that include a 5-inch full HD screen, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 16GB of expandable storage and 2,300 mAh battery. The tablet shell will have an 8.9-inch 1200×1920 screen, dual speakers, its own 1-megapixel front camera and a 4,990 mAh battery. It is said that the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 will run the show but we keep hoping that the “S” version will replace that chip for the newer Snapdragon 801 variant.
Presuming Asus does announce the PadFone S at Computex, it remains to be seen when they’ll bring it to markets all around the world. Hopefully, this will be a short wait, but you never know.
