AT&T, Asus and Intel announced the PadFone X mini smartphone/tablet combo. The device will start selling on October 24th for $199.99 requiring no contract signing activities.
Inside, the mini packs Intel’s dual-core Atom Z2560 CPU, a single gig of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras. The phone part has a 4.5-inch 854×480 (FWVGA) pixels screen and a 2,060 mAh battery, whereas the tablet dock rocks a 7-inch 1280×800 pixels display and its own 2,200 mAh battery.
We would love better specs but we’ll take whatever we can get from a PadFone. That being said, I find this to be one of the best devices for a high-school kid. Or even for a freshmen at college. For $200 you get both the phone and tablet, which is an amazing deal. We’re not sure whether an international variant will be released in the near future, though.
