I’m pretty excited every time I get a press release related to pico projectors. That’s the way of the future and I can’t wait for a day to have such a device (which must be a smartphone, BTW) as my primary phone.
On that note we bring you this story which involves three companies — Syndiant, Foryou Multimedia Electronics and ASTRI R&D Labs — announcing that they’ve produced an LED pico projector that is less than 4cc in volume and 6 mm in height! In other words, we’re talking about a super small component that is suitable for embedding into mobile phones and digital still cameras, though we don’t care about the latter.
The name of this piece of technology is SYL2030 panel, and it’s a member of Syndiant’s VueG8 family of pico projector panels, offering WVGA resolution output!
Syndiant, which BTW recently secured additional $4.4 million for its Series B round of financing, is the leader in high resolution microdisplays for pico projectors. I’m not sure what exactly the two other companies do, but we know they’ve “designed an embeddable LED pico projector for handheld consumer devices.”
Anyway, I hope these kinds of technologies will become mainstream and that soon enough, i.e. few years from now, we’ll have even some mid-range models shipping with built-in projectors…
