We’ve seen the HTC Legend quite a few times now, but never like this. The svelte, aluminum uni-bodied mid-range beast of an Android phone is now available unlocked with North American 3G bands for about $500.
We’ve got some hands-on with the device, and it’s quite a piece of work. A solid Hero successor, the HTC Legend makes refinements in all the right places, although I did like the more pronounced chin of the original Hero. For about $500, the device could be yours, but as Engadget points out, you can get a Nexus One for just a little more, which will give you a bigger, higher resolution screen, and almost twice as fast processor. Oh, and don’t forget that the Nexus One is the quickest updated Android device available today. But if you’re more in the mood for a Sense device and love that full aluminum unibody look, you probably can’t go wrong with this device for this price.
The unlocked Legend will work on AT&T’s 3G network, as well as many Canadian 3G networks. If you can deal without 3G on the device, you can get this thing to work with T-Mobile USA’s EDGE network as well, but that’s a lot to spend on a device that won’t be fully functional. T-Mobile users, check out the MyTouch Slide if you need some Sense lovin’ in your life.
The Legend shows off just how great HTC is when it comes to making smartphones. While some may not be as sexy, (no names mentioned here), the company has a great eye for design that rivals even Apple in some ways. Apple itself has a gorgeous design philosophy for all of their products, but they make just one phone. One stunning phone. Making dozens of smartphones, most with unique, sexy form-factors – that’s showing off some brilliant designing muscle.
