metaio: We’re iOS 4 ready; Image recognition coming to junaio AR browser, SDK

metaio, the company behind the popular augmented reality browser junaio, announced that their app is ready for the iOS 4. More specifically, they said now that Apple has opened up camera access API, we should expect to have image recognition capabilities included in their apps and Unifeye Mobile SDK (which if you didn’t know supports not only the iPhone, but also Android, Windows Mobile and Symbian).

We’ve already talked about junaio’s “glue” features and now we’ll see that kind of capability being rolled out on a wider scale. Here are some examples how this technology could be used, as noted by metaio:

  • Advertisers may “augment” their print ads with games or added displays.
  • Museums may offer a guided tour of their art treasures through “augmented reality”.
  • Developers can create realistic and mixed reality games in the real environment of the player.

In a nutshell, useful and entertaining information may be called up based on places or objects around you.

I like the idea and can’t wait to see junaio and their partners launching new channels that take advantage of this technology. Be sure to keep your eyes on IntoMobile as we’ll definitely be talking about “everything AR” on these pages. 😉
