Femtocell developer Ubiquisys has completed a $9 million funding round led by 5 Continents Consulting Group (5CCG). Other investors participated in the round include Yasuda Enterprise Development (new investor), Advent Venture Partners, Accel Partners and Atlas Venture. The company will use the new money to accelerate its programme to meet significant demand for the femtocell technology, including new market segments such as indoor hot-spots, metro and rural deployments.
As a reminder, we’ve already talked about Ubiquisys when we said they were the first company to break the $100 price barrier for femtocells. Likewise, we saw Japan’s SoftBank using their products to offer femtocells for free to their users, a practice we hope will be repeated with other mobile operators around the world.
5CCG’s Founder and Managing Partner, Michael Bornhäusser, is very optimistic about Ubiquisys’ prospects, adding: “Ubiquisys is in a great position right now as we believe that the dynamic growth of the global Femto market is just starting-up. Ubiquisys has a sustainable technology advantage, its products have been tested and launched by multiple operators across the world, and it has started to deliver serious volumes.”
