iOS 4.0.1 Getting Mixed Reviews – Antenna Issue Looms Large

iOS 4.0.1 Update

So, iOS 4.0.1 is out. Will talked about the release yesterday, but I simply had to get my two cents in. I can’t help myself. As you can see from the screen capture above, the update is for the 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4. The main purpose of the update is to ‘improve the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength display’. But will this correct the iPhone 4’s nagging antenna problem? Your guess is as good as mine.

I’ve read conflicting reports of success and failure, so it looks like the update does NOT do what it was intended to do… that is, if the only aim of 4.0.1 is to address the antenna reception issue for all iPhone 4 users.

With that said, if you have an iPhone 4 on-hand, and are currently experiencing the dropped calls and bad reception because you’re ‘holding it wrong’… Might as well pop open iTunes and download the update. It never hurts to stay current with the latest OS, and iOS 4.0.1 is it.

Things should get very interesting around 10AM Pacific this morning, when Apple will address the press over said iPhone 4 issues. Will a recall be announced? Will the 4.0.1 update be touted as the saviour? Are there more fixes to come? Maybe a hardware fix? Or perhaps we’ll simply be encouraged to buy more bumpers!?

Stay tuned, me thinks we could have a very interesting Friday on our hands!

Note: If you’re busy updating to iOS 4.0.1 right now, be sure to let us know the results. If you were having reception issues… is it fixed? Or is 4.0.1 a big let down for you? If you don’t have an iPhone 4, are you waiting for this debacle to clear itself up before you make a purchase? Tell us what you’re thinking!
