Red Five Labs has announced the beta release of Net60, an implementation of the .NET Compact Framework running on Symbian S60 3rd edition based devices. The idea is simple — to make Windows Mobile applications running unchanged on S60 devices, hence bring more apps and developers to the platform. Thanks to Net60, developing for S60 is way more easier, as programmers can now rely on the familiar tools and use C# and Visual Basic .NET in Visual Studio, as well as the .NET Compact Framework environment to build applications for Symbian devices.
The beta release is targeting the System Integrators and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) who are interested in exploring the possibilities of Net60 ahead of the commercial release. More information and download instructions are available from here.
