bunch of handsets on a pileABI Research is out with its quarterly handset shipment numbers. In total, the Q2 ended with 321.2 million mobile phones shipped, representing a 5.9% increase from the previous quarter. Of all the handsets shipped, the WCDMA-enabled ones made up 31%.

  • Nokia continued to shed market share, declining to 34.5% in the quarter.
  • LG notched up an increase in share to 9.5%.
  • Samsung lost its seven-quarter winning momentum citing decline in the European economic outlook as a main reason for this. The Korean company is still trailing Nokia, and hopes the new Galaxy S line of smartphones will help it approach the still leading Finnish handset maker.
  • Apple’s marketshare shrank slightly to 2.6%. The reason, apparently, is the famous antenna problem found in the iPhone 4.
  • RIM held 3.5% of the market at the end of Q2.
  • Finally, Motorola took 2.6% of the market, though it failed to bring its products in many markets around the world.

As usual, you can get more information from ABI Research’s website…
