OpenAppMkt is a new service for web-based apps. It’s like Apple’s own web app list, but optimized for browsing in Safari. Actually, the Android smartphone users can also access the service and use all of the web apps just as well — both Safari and Google’s Android browser are WebKit-based.
As you know, a dedicated native app is much better than HTML with CSS and JavaScript. But that doesn’t have to be the case, especially with the advent of HTML 5. Now that I’m thinking, many of the iPhone apps could be turned in HTML 5 web apps without user even noticing. But I digress…
Anyway, OpenAppMkt doesn’t list of all of the web apps available, but those that are in their index can be rated, reviewed and there are also screenshots available. Yap, it’s like a full blown app store which you can access from your browser.
Among the cool apps we’ve seen are YouTube and other Google-made stuff, PieGuy (aka PacMan with a pizza), Facebook, and Glyphboard, which presents a chart of symbols and emoticons for copying and pasting.
Enough said. If you love web-based apps (I love GMail), you may want to try OpenAppMkt out. Simply point your browser to openappmkt.com and take it from there.
