Internal antenna - Verizon Apple iPhone

It’s another day, so we got another Verizon Apple iPhone rumor folks. This latest one says the Verizon iPhone will have an internal antenna and it could sport a 1.2 GHz processor.

The rumor comes courtesy of Dvice, which says it has heard from a source who has handled the Verizon iPhone prototype. The internal antenna doesn’t sound too crazy in light of the antennagate fiasco, although it would require a different design than the iPhone 4.

That actually makes a lot of sense to me because if an Apple iPhone hits Verizon in January, as is rumored, I don’t think it will be exactly like the iPhone 4. Some slight form factor modifications could make the Verizon iPhone more interesting and AT&T could still cling to the fact that it is the exclusive provider of the iPhone 4. I’d also expect features like Visual Voicemail to remain exclusive to the AT&T version. That’s fine with me because, let’s be honest, Visual Voicemail is cool but it’s not a make-or-break factor.

As for the 1.2 GHz rumor, I don’t know what to make of that. The iOS products will use Apple’s custom A4 chip but Apple hasn’t been quick to tout the processor speed, really.

The latest round of rumors come as noted Apple follower John Gruber said the company already has a CDMA iPhone at the engineering verification testing stage, which could indicate that it’s set for a January launch. The CDMA doesn’t necessarilly mean Verizon, as it could also be for Sprint, China networks, or a handful of other providers.

It does appear to just be a matter of time before the device comes to Big Red and Verizon executives have even called it “inevitable.” I’d expect the Verizon iPhone to sell at least a million units on launch day with many unhappy Sprint and T-Mobile users jumping ship.
