Apps are hot right now and the upcoming AppNation app developers conference in SF has announced that they will be teaming up with Fox Network and San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau to give mobile app developers a chance to win some cold, hard cash. AppNation is running a “Pimp My App” contest that will award upwards of $10,000 to devs that have what it takes to create an apps for the TV show Fringe as well as apps that promote the city of SF as the number one destination in the world.
If you’re reading this, chances are pretty good that you’ve at least heard of the sci-fi themed drama Fringe from Fox. Heck, you might even be an avid fan. In either case, if you’re also a developer with any sort of mobile skills, you’ll want to listen up. Fox is putting up $10,000 dolla-dolla bills to the developer that crunches out the most compelling app based on the hit TV show. A second-place winner will receive $1000 in prize money. Devs are free to use any and all mobile app development tools available to them.
“FRINGE is one of the most creative and innovative series on television, so we want to offer fans an app that’s just as mind-blowing as the show,” said Bill Bradford, Senior Vice President of Digital Media, Fox Broadcasting Company. “There’s no better way to tap into new talent than to open this up to the broader developer community, so we’re thrilled that APPNATION is giving us the perfect forum in which to do that.”
If you’ve no interest in Fringe – although we can’t see how that would even be possible – you can still enter for your chance to win some cash. The SF Convention & Visitors Bureau has also joined the AppNation Pimp My App contest to offer $2500 as a first prize to the mobile app chosen as the SFCVB’s official app. The idea here is to show mobile users out there how great SF is and why they should come visit. Here’s a good tip: don’t mention the weather.
“APPNATION is thrilled to be working with literally the #1 tourist City in the world as a partner in this unique contest, said APPNATION Founder and Executive Producer Drew Ianni “We are honored that the great City of San Francisco has partnered with APPNATION to rally the development community for what has to be one of the most exciting creative assignments one could possibly imagine”.
The only caveats to the Pimp My App competition is that you have to submit the app in English and it has to run on both the iOS and Android operating systems. Developers also have to be at least 18 years old.
