When it comes to the latest in mobile tech, the HTC Hero is admittedly old news. HTC has released a whackload of devices (quite awesome devices, I might add) since the Hero’s debut, but that said… for those that still run a Hero on a daily basis, running the latest OS on the device is near the top of the priority list. For many, Android OS 2.1 has been available for some time… But for most Canadians, the rumored update to Android 2.1 on the TELUS network has been a dream for many. We’ve seen nothing but delays, delays, and more delays… However, things look like they could be taking a turn for the better.
In a quick update from our friends at MobileSyrup, they’ve noted that a HowardForums member has pointed out something of interest. If you view the source code on the TELUS HTC Hero page, you can see some ‘Coming soon – upgrade to Android 2.1!’ text. Also denoted are the key feature enhancements that come along with 2.1, including Flash 4.0 support, a voice dialer, multi-touch navigation, Google Maps, and a people group widget.
With that in mind, they’ve also noted that their TELUS insider/tipster is pointing to an ‘early Q4’ release at the very latest. Looks like things are lining up for a late fall/winter release of Android 2.1 for the TELUS HTC Hero. Stay tuned for more.
Note: For what it’s worth, the Hero (when it was released) was a big favorite of mine. Actually, now that I think about it… the device is still a favorite. It was one of the first Android powered devices that I was able to experience… and the solid hardware coupled with Google OS and Sense UI made for a very rewarding experience. Since then, my interest (and use) of Android has gone up… way up!
