Orange seems to be looking at the prospects of today’s tablet computers with great interest. The France Telecom-owned operator is apparently planning to launch a £200 Android tablet by end of year. According to French financial newspaper Les Echos, they have reportedly contracted a “large Asian manufacturer” to make such a device.
The idea is to bring the tablet computing to the masses and eventually offer it for less than 100 EUR (maybe even free) on a contract.
Of course, the upcoming device will rock 3G radio and run Android, providing users with tons of apps right from the launch day. Last year, Orange launched the 7-inch WiFi ‘Tabbee’ tablet computer, but not many people wanted it. However, with the Android included in the mix and with all the iPad craze still looming, people may grab Orange’s tablet this time.
