Canadians waiting for the BlackBerry Torch have heard hints of a September 15 presale on Rogers, but they’ve just gone official with a September 24 launch date, and $199 pricetag on a three-year contract. Telus was supposedly launching the BlackBerry Torch on September 16, and Bell will probably offer it around the same time. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is RIM’s latest device, offering a lot of new stuff. It’s their first smartphone with a 5 megapixel camera, their first slider, and the spearhead for their new operating system. Spec-wise, it’s pretty mid-range: 624 MHz processor, HVGA capacitive touchscreen, 512 MB of RAM, Wi-Fi b/g/n, world roaming 3G, and GPS. Universal search will probably be the biggest takeaway from BlackBerry 6, but anyone with a Bold 9650, Pearl 9100, or Bold 9700 probably won’t be jumping for the Torch, since a software update will be headed their way in good time.
