HTC HD2 reborn as the Windows Phone-powered HD7, launching October 18th?

The HTC HD2 was widely regarded as a high-end handset that limped along on Windows Mobile 6.5. Those who enjoyed the stellar specs of this handset will be happy to know that the HD2 may be re-born as the HD7, a Windows Phone 7 handset slated to hit O2 UK.

The information about this handset comes from a leaked spreadsheet purportedly from O2 UK. The handset was labeled with the designation, HD7, a naming convention that fits in nicely with an upcoming version of the HD2 that is powered by Windows Phone 7. Before you get over-excited about yet another premier Windows Phone 7 handset from HTC, you should know that a spreadsheet without any carrier-branding is easily forged.

If we assume that this document is accurate, then it is also possible that the HD7 codename is an alias for the already rumored HTC Mozart or Schubert. Nonetheless, it is possible, perhaps even plausible that the HD7 may be the fourth of fifth Windows Phone 7 handset form HTC to takes its place alongside the HTC Mozart/Schubert, the Spark, the T8778, and that mysterious leaked WP7 handset headed to Verizon. With Windows Phone 7 now released to manufacturers, it won’t be much longer until all is revealed and each one of the handsets will have their proper  name and target carrier released to the public.
