Skyhook — the location positioning, context and intelligence company — announced that Layar (popular augmented reality browser) has added Skyhook’s Core Engine to its Android application for improved location results.

According to Layar’s CEO, Raimo van der Klein, Skyhook SDK will add “improved accuracy and speed over the native Android platform.” Skyhook’s CEO Ted Morgan also commented the news – he said: “Hyperlocal apps like Layar require exact positioning to show a user what’s nearby. Integrating our SDK into the Layar app is the perfect solution to achieve the best location results across all Android devices.”

As you know Layar Reality Browser displays real time information on top of the camera view. It is available for the users of Android smartphones as well as those owning the Apple iPhone or Samsung Wave.

Skyhook’s servers fulfill hundreds of millions of location requests every day across millions of handsets, netbooks and cameras. Their technology uses a combination of Wi-Fi, cellular and GPS readings to produce a single, accurate location quickly and in all environments.
