The Nokia Nuron, otherwise known as the 5230 across the rest of the world, has been sold by T-Mobile since March of this year, but today it’s finally going to be made available to people who prefer to be on prepaid plans. Likewise the Nokia C3, which has been on sale around the world since this summer, is coming to AT&T, again for the prepaid market. The Nuron will cost $130 and comes with Ovi Maps which features unlimited turn by turn navigation. The C3 will be sold only at Wal-Mart Stores for $80. Spec sheets for both devices in case you’ve forgotten:
Nokia Nuron: 4.37 x 2.03 x 0.61 inches, 4.05 ounces, 3.2 inch screen with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels, 1320 mAh battery, 3.5 mm headphone jack, 2 megapixel camera, quadband GSM/EDGE, dualband (1700/2100 MHz) 3.6 Mbps 3G and finally GPS. Not the most feature packed smartphone on the market, but hey, if you need a second navigation system for your car, and a simple phone for calling and texting, then this is great for you.
Nokia C3 [pictured above]: 4.55 x 2.29 x 0.54 inches, 4.02 ounces, 2.4 inch 320 x 240 pixel screen, 1320 mAh battery, 2 megapixel camera, quadband GSM/EDGE and WiFi. This device is great for the girl in the house who needs to send out a text message every 6 minutes otherwise her hair falls out. It’s cheap, it’s a Nokia, it’ll last a load of laundry should that accidentally happen.
If you’re going prepaid then why not just get the SIM card and buy your own devices? Both of these phones have custom software from their respective operators and chances are that they’ve broken something in the process. Just get something from Amazon or Newegg or even Expansys. You’ll pay a little bit more, but you’ll also be able to shove your own SIM card inside your own phone should you choose to travel abroad. Good luck getting anything other than an AT&T SIM card working in an AT&T phone.
