Verizon’s not the only one talking up LTE today. Rogers has announced that they have been doing 4G LTE trials with Ericsson here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and will be moving to a technical trial “on both low and high band frequencies”. Speeds will go up to 150 Mbps, but of course that’s only the theoretical upper end.
Rogers was early to adopt HSPA+, but supporting handsets have been slim. The trialling will work on the AWS spectrum, which means the G2 on T-Mobile will probably be their testing handset of choice. Rogers and Ericsson offered no timeline for when LTE trials would move out of the lab or into other cities for that matter, but all in good time, no doubt. Telus and Bell, you guys aren’t far behind, right?
