Norwegian Airlines to offer in-flight mobile phone and internet services in q4 2008Mobile phones these days are more like extensions of one’s social and business persona than just a cellphone. And, as such, airlines are going to eventually have to adapt and offer mobile phone and web access to all travelers – if they feel like staying competitive, that is. Whether you’re flying business-class or just regular, ole’ coach-class, staying connected keeps you productive and less bored.

To that end, the newest airline to offer in-flight mobile phone and internet services is Norwegian Air. Cellphone and wireless internet access will be handled by Norwegian Air’s new subsidiary, Call Norwegian AS. The new services are slated to go live in Q4 2008.

“Call Norwegian will be an Internet-based mobile telephone company, and the products will be focused on primary mobile telephone services (network service),” Norwegian Air Shuttle said in a statement.

It’s good to see that even the budget airlines are starting to bring cellphone and internet access into the cabin. If not by the end of 2008, we should see most airlines offering some sort of in-flight connectivity options (hopefully at a reasonable price) by the end of 2009. We’re counting the days…
