Rhomobile’s cross-platform smartphone app development framework Rhodes is now in version 2.2, offering users additional functionality, including support for Bluetooth, Calendar and Android Cloud to Device Messaging.

Using the calendar support, developers can create apps that access and create events in the native device calendar. With Bluetooth support, developers can add another layer of connectivity to their Rhodes apps. And with the new Android Cloud to Device Messaging push support, the server sends requests to receive updated application and user data to the smartphone application. Requests do not require the application to be open on the device, ensuring data is always kept current.

For those of you who haven’t heard about Rhodes before, you should know it’s made to allow developers to make mobile apps for multiple platforms using HTML, JavaScript and Ruby, instead of Objective-C or other complex native device OS language. As for the platforms supported, Rhodes can be used for building native apps for iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian.
