I just got word from Telus following Sprint’s announcement that they will, indeed carry the BlackBerry Style 9670, but had nothing to say about timing or price (though it’s likely to be similar to Sprint’s October 31 / $99 on contract). We had heard rumours that along with Bell, Telus would be offering the second flip BlackBerry on the first week of November, but since there aren’t any pics yet, I cooked up the image above to give an idea of what it will probably look like. Got a press shot from Telus PR.
Just to recap really quickly, the BlackBerry Style 9670 has a 5 megapixel camera, HVGA internal screen, secondary external screen for notifications, 512 MB of RAM, and runs OS 6, complete with WebKit browser, user interface improvements, and universal search to find local and web content easily.
It’s interesting that Telus (and likely Bell) are still pumping out CDMA smartphones, since they flipped the switch on their HSPA networks last year. Being able to support both kinds of devices, however, give them a distinct advantage over Rogers, and even the little guys like Wind, who only have GSM to work with. Sprint and Verizon can sometimes get some neat phones, and Canada has two networks that can tap into those as well as the more worldly GSM devices is kind of nice. Despite that, we still don’t have the Droid X or Droid 2 up here. What gives?
In any case, keep an eye on the Telus online store for the BlackBerry Style 9670. We’ll be sure to let you know if we hear anything from Bell.
