Retrevo 2010 Gadget Census

The Retrevo 2010 Gadget Census has been conducted, and the results are in. Very interesting results I might add. As you can see from the infographic above, the spread of iPhone, Android and BlackBerry users is quite varied, with Android taking hold in the heart of the nation… and for whatever reason, the coasts seem to prefer iPhone and BlackBerry action. Take a few moments to peruse the infographic. What state do YOU live in? An iPhone, Android or BlackBerry state?

In the end, the iPhone won the most ‘Gagetorial’ votes, edging out BlackBerry by 20. Android came in a distant third, despite being tied for the most state wins. Very interesting, very interesting indeed.

If you’re wondering just how the ‘Gadgetorial’ was put together, here’s an official description:

Gadgetoral votes were calculated based on smartphone ownership per capita across the country. Each state was granted a 3 vote minimum consistent with electoral college. Phone “states” were created based on differences in per capita ownership between individual states and the national average.

The Gadget Census was conducted online from March, 2010 through July, 2010 and received over 7,500 individual responses from Retrevo users distributed across gender, age, and location. Responses were weighted based on reported demographics to gain accurate estimations of gadget ownership and usage within and across demographics. All data is therefore reported as weighted data in which most responses have a confidence interval of +/- 4% at a 95% confidence level.

So there you have it. Are you surprised with these results? Would you tack a ‘grain of salt’ disclaimer on Retrevo’s findings?

Whatever your opinion, be sure to let us know what you think. Frankly, I’m not surprised to see the spread of Android represented here. What I am surprised about is the minimal number of Gadgetorial votes Google’s OS brings home… It’s also a little surprising that BlackBerry is right up there with the iPhone. The graphic here will no doubt be fodder for BlackBerry fans and users nationwide! For more information you can spend some time digging around at Retrovo. In fact, I recommend it.
