Good news for Cricket‘s smartphone users. No longer will you be limited to Cricket’s coverage, but will be able to take your mobile Internet with you, no matter where you go across the U.S.
The carrier launched nationwide 3G data roaming capabilities for its smartphone customers, with the initial roll-out to include newly activated lines of services on the Blackberry Curve 8530, Sanyo ZIO by Kyocera and Huawei Ascend. As a result, Cricket’s 3G data network is effectively expanded from 92 million to cover over 280 million potential customers, reaching more than 80% of the population.
Unfortunately, Cricket Broadband customers (i.e. those connecting via a laptop computer) are still not included in this deal, but that will change too at some point next year.
In the other Cricket news, the carrier is hosting the “Cricket Wireless Smart Decision Video Contest” on YouTube, asking fans to tell them “What is the smartest decision you ever made?” One grand prize winner will score a new Cricket smartphone along with one year of free service and two runners-up will receive a smartphone with 3 months of free service!
