New Powermat Receivers for iPhone 4, Motorola Droid X, HTC EVO 4G, BlackBerry Bold 9700, Curve 3G 9300

Those wonderful people at Powermat have just updated their lineup of wireless charging receivers with a new design that seamlessly replaces the battery door on the Motorola Droid X, HTC EVO 4G, BlackBerry Curve 8500-series and 9300, and the BlackBerry Bold 9700. The iPhone 4 is a bit trickier, but manages to offer no-wires recharging with a slim, form-fitting case. Previous Powermat receivers were a bit on the bulky side, with conspicuous protrusions, but this batch is created to replace your usual battery door with little to no difference.

Wireless, or induction charging was first really made popular by the Palm Pre and how it charged simply by resting on the Touchstone accessory. No other OEMs have yet embraced the technology to the extent of including it on their phones, but third parties like Energizer and Powermat have leaped on the opportunity. The Qi wireless charging standard seems to be attracting manufacturer interest, which suggests we’ll eventually see the tech built-in to our handsets from the get-go.

The next step for Powermat is to simply provide a replacement battery that plays nice with their charger unit, skipping the need to have a receiver on the phone. For now, head over to Powermat to check out charging receivers for the iPhone 4, Motorola Droid X, HTC EVO 4G, BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300, or Bold 9700. They’re all going for about $39.99 a pop, while the pads start at $39.99, though you can get bundles including both for $59.99.
