All iPhone users waiting on a viable iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak method are incredibly indebted to Nate True’s for making the jailbreak solution available last night. But, it turns out that he did so at the cost of his membership in the inner-circles of iPhone hackers – the iPhone Dev Team has apparently kicked him out for releasing the jailbreak method against their wishes.
The jailbreak solution that was leaked last night uses “files belonging to Apple and patches which contain copyrighted information by Apple, making his personal release illegal and unethical,” according to Jonathan Zdziarski, an iPhone Dev Team member. Nate True apparently made little to no contribution to the actual jailbreak, simply observing the iPhone Dev Team’s breakthroughs. He then used that knowledge, combined with a bit of warez-ery, to craft the iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak.
Nate True’s use of copyrighted material makes his jailbreak method illegal. The iPhone Dev Team was waiting on releasing the iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak until they could devise a way to allow read/write access (jailbreak) to the iPhone without violating copyrights. They are still working on a legal jailbreak solution and should make it public as soon as the work as been completed.
The iPhone Dev Team is trying to distance themselves from Nate True’s work at this point. They don’t want the public to associate them with illegal hacks and unethical practices. Kudos to the iPhone Dev Team for working to bring us a legit iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak!
