BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet Demoed Live On Stage at Adobe MAX

You know what, nevermind playing around in the BlackBerry PlayBook in the Adobe AIR simulator, how about a live device for a change? Aside from a few brief glances at speeches on stage, and a stifling demo display, we had until now seen very little of RIM’s first tablet actually running the native OS. Today at the Adobe MAX conference, RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazaridis decided to show off the device in some detail, and how the newly-announced Flash tools can be used on the PlayBook.

The BlackBerry PlayBook has a 7″ 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen, a rear-facing 5 megapixel camera, front-facing video conferencing camera, dual-core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, and runs a whole new operating system. We’re expecting it to launch early next year.

It’s relieving to see RIM showing the OS proper running, and everything seems to be moving very smoothly. I’d go so far as to say that it is much more production-ready than any of us thought it was.

So, anyone still saying “vaporware?”
