Nokia C6-01 starts shipping [We’re up to 3 Symbian^3 handsets on the market]

After the long delayed Nokia N8 shipped, the first smartphone powered by the new and improved yet ancient looking Symbian^3, the Nokia C7 quickly followed and now the C6-01 is also starting to make itself seen at a store near you. For those who may have a rusty memory, the Nokia N8 was announced back in April and then shipped on the last day of September, a full 5 months later. The C7 launch was executed much more swiftly, with an announcement in mid September, then a full launch less than a month later. Both the C7 and C6-01 were announced on the same day, at Nokia World, so it’s nice to see the cheaper cousin finally leaving the factory and becoming available to consumers.

Specifications include a 3.2 inch 640 x 360 pixel resolution screen, 13.9 mm thick body, 103.8 mm tall, 52.5 mm wide, all in a 131 gram package that has Bluetooth 3.0 inside, WiFi b/g/n, quadband GSM/EDGE, pentaband 3G, which is another way of saying you’ll get high speed internet access regardless of where you are in the world, an 8 megapixel camera that can do 720p, and best of all it’s only 260 EUR.

Make no mistake about it, this thing is priced to move, and move it shall thanks to the Nokia brand name, the promise of a more advanced operating system, and finally a true successor to Nokia’s first touch screen device, the 5800. Are you going to pick one up or are you going to save your pennies to purchase the 12 megapixel monster that is the N8? Many people who have reviewed the N8 have said that it’s awesome device, but the operating system ruins the experience. I believe that, which is why it’s going to be hard to recommend this when there are so many Android devices that are hitting the market in the same price category.
